Marta on the Beach

dedicated to Marta Halytska

A poem by Randy Ai (2011)

The white streams of sand stretch on eternally
Sparking crystals of light that disappear
That flash smiles under the white hot sun
Then fade as the eye draws near

Tiny apparitions play in the water
Drawing little ripples of blue to shore
Splashing warmth on a lone figure
By licking her smooth contour

Her strong bronzed body lies still
As if asleep since the dawn of eternity
When gods and goddesses still roamed
Through juggle tracks and cinnamon trees

The scent of the world beckons her
"I need you" the wind whispers and begs
Awake! And she arises from her sleep
Her long hair touching her regal legs

Naked at the edge of the wide sea
Where all life crawls forward to die
She is Venus waiting to be born
Her soul outstretched against the sky
